A Message from the Caxton Street Seafood and Wine Festival 2010 Event Manager. After spending 5 weeks in New York last November and completing workshops with the Arts and Business council of New York, I was fortunate enough to meet many people involved in the Arts and Entertainment world in New York – Broadway Producers, Live Music Venues, Museums Curators and Off Broadway Theatres, Art Galleries and Ballet Companies. They all had one thing in common - 95% of their staff were volunteers!! During my stay in New York, I myself volunteered at a number of events. Getting to know many of the long term volunteers, I witnessed firsthand the value of information, knowledge, experience and network contacts that they were building with every volunteer gig that they added to their belts. As a direct benefit of their volunteer experience, 25% gained employment opportunities and 65% improved their university results. 'I thoroughly enjoyed the dramatic change of environment that festival work provides. I'm so used to knowing and understanding my professional territory and the frenetic pace of festival operations re-energised my ability to think on my feet. You get so used to the day to day comfort of a regular desk, fresh coffee and countless emails... being thrown into the throng of jubilant festival goers & rock bands was a breath of fresh air but at the same time it reminded me of how organized chaos can bring out the best (and long forgotten) elements of your capabilities. I can't wait for the next festival experience!! Damien Lumby, International IT Knowledge Management Trainer and Speaker, Sydney NSW 2009 was the first year that volunteers actively participated as an integral part of the Caxton Street Seafood and Wine Festival. I can say with certainty that the Festival success was due in part to the incredible efforts of the volunteers. Since then The Pushworth Group has been keenly watching the development of emerging Industry professionals amongst the 2009 CSSWAF volunteers and as we are always on the lookout for new members of our Pushworth team, we look forward to meeting more of you this year. Caxton Street Seafood and Wine Festival 2010 is a major Festival for Australia and as such there are specific guidelines for the management of the risk associated with so many people on one street on one day. Your attendance to the Volunteer Training Evening at Hotel LA on April 28 from 6.30pm is critical to your ability to perform your volunteer duties and get an overview of this high profile Festival, meet the Event and Volunteer team and prepare yourself for your day on Caxton Street. Sirromet’s new range will feature plastic bottles instead of the more traditional glass that also includes a screw on lid and labels made from 100% recycled paper. SEAFOOD IS LOW IN FAT

Seafood averages less than 2% fat. For slimmers, seafood is all good news. All seafood is low in kilojoules, with fewer kilojoules than even the leanest meat or chicken. And of course with seafood you don't need to trim any fat. Just grill, barbecue, bake, steam, poach or microwave seafood to keep a low kilojoule count.

FISH IS LOW IN CHOLESTEROL

Cholesterol is an essential part of all living animal tissue. But levels of cholesterol can be too high if we eat too much saturated fat. Seafood has very little fat of any kind and what it does have is mostly unsaturated fat. Eating fish two or three times a week can help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease.

Seafood is an excellent source of top quality protein, and compares favourably with meat and chicken.

Seafood is an excellent source of many important minerals, including iodine, zinc, potassium and phosphorus. It is also rich in many vitamins, especially the B group.

OMEGA 3 FATTY ACIDS

Omega-3s are a type of polyunsaturated fat and are essential nutrients that play many critical roles in our bodies. And, just like minerals and most vitamins, our body cannot make them.
Long chain Omega-3s are found in oily fish, non-oily fish and shellfish, and to a lesser extent in meats and eggs. Long chain Omega-3s are used effectively in the body. DHA (a long chain Omega-3 fatty acid) is a major building block of the brain, and the retina in the eye is very concentrated in DHA. Other vital organs, such as the heart, are rich in long chain Omega-3s.
Research has also shown that regular consumption of Omega-3 fatty acids can reduce the risk of developing macular degeneration (MD).

On Sunday 2 May 2010, Caxton Street will be transformed into one of the greatest seafood and wine events Australia has to offer. Three stages of entertainment provide the soundtrack for Brisbane's biggest street party. Bring the family for a slice of musical culture under the Brisbane winter sunshine with jazz, blues and groove and pop from some of Australia's favourite recording artists. Then once the sun goes down, dance and rock out to your favourite tunes!

The famous Caxton Street Precinct with its renowned nightlife and divine dining is the jewel in a crown that includes close proximity to internationally acclaimed Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane Arts Theatre, Barracks Cinema and Cafes, Roma Street and South Bank Parklands within walking distance, specialty shopping on Latrobe Terrace or Park Road while right on the doorstep of the CBD. The surrounding streets in every direction are filled with original Queensland architecture. There are entire Petrie Terrace streets that look like as if they stepped out of the pages of a historical novel.

Brisbane's biggest Street Party is an iconic Queensland Festival recognized as a significant event for Queensland by Brisbane City Council and Tourism Queensland. Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) says "the largest independently produced Street Festival in Brisbane and arguably Queensland". Caxton Street Seafood and Wine Festival 2010 Update

100 days and counting until the iconic 16^th annual Seafood and Wine Festival takes over Caxton Street!

The Caxton Street dining precinct features many of Brisbane's finest restaurants who are now busily preparing menus for the Festival fare. 2010 looks set to introduce some fine new Seafood dishes for you to sample along with some of Australia's finest selections of wines.

Performers from all over the country are lining up to play on the Street and this year's line up has something for everyone with music over three stages for ten hours of nonstop entertainment.

Planning is well underway for the official Festival launch with Nova fm on 18 February 2010 with competitions and giveaways poised to keep audiences Australia wide tuned.

This year's Festival organisers want you to LIVE IT UP ON CAXTON STREET! Sampling a taste of life in one of Australia's most historical precincts and treating our palettes to healthy seafood, fine wines and sharing a day under the winter sun with our mates while grooving to the soundtrack of our great Queensland lifestyle – this is how to live it up!
